Learning Objectives:
The purpose of this CME activity is to:
- Enhance the understanding of healthcare professionals (HCPs) of the burden and challenges associated with epilepsy care.
- Improve the knowledge and skills of HCPs in the diagnosis and management of those with an epilepsy.
- Enhance the understanding and implementation of patient-centred care and shared decision-making in the management of epilepsies.
By the end of this CME activity, healthcare professionals should be able to:
- Describe the complexities and challenges associated with epilepsy care and explain the burdens associated with epilepsies.
- Recognise the treatment and management guidelines associated with epilepsies and describe the psychiatric, cognitive, and physical risks.
- Develop and demonstrate communication skills to recognise and enhance the relationship between the person with an epilepsy, carers (where appropriate), and the HCP.
- This will improve the patient-practitioner relationship, treatment and management knowledge, and better understanding of the patient's needs.
- Implement principles and practices of patient-centred care and engage in shared decision-making in the context of epilepsy management; thereby improving the quality of care provided to patients with an epilepsy.
